The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy and influence public policy through education and advocacy. The League does not support or oppose any political party or any candidate. The League is financed by membership dues and the contributions of interested citizens who believe that the League is the spirit of democracy in action. Membership is open to any person of voting age, male or female. Membership application is available in the "Join the League" tab below.

A qualified voter is a U.S. citizen at least 18 years if age, a resident of Alabama and registered at a current home address. If you have moved or have not voted in 4 years, you will need to complete a voter registration form to update your registered status. Register to vote at least 14 days before an election date. Know your social security number (or the registrar will assign you a number) and the address of your last place of registration (if applicable).

You can call the Alabama Voter Hotline at 1.800.274.8683 and request an application.
You can register in person at these locations:
Apply in person or in writing at the county courthouse at least five days before an election date. You may also download a copy of the absentee ballot request form at https://www.sos.alabama.gov/alabama-votes which may be mailed to the Circuit Clerk (or, if outside of Jefferson Co. or Shelby Co., to the County Probate Clerk if there is more than one county in your judicial circuit) at the County Courthouse and which must be received at least five days before an election date.

ABOUT THE LEAGUE AND LWVGB MEMBERSHIP
The mission of the League of Women Voters of Greater Birmingham (LWVGB) is to empower voters and defend democracy. LWVGB is a nonpartisan, political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy. Membership in the LWVGB is open to anyone age 16 or older. Despite our name, both men and women are welcomed as members in the League. Men have been members since 1973 and hold leadership roles.
The League of Women Voters is a three-tiered organization. Your membership in the League of Women Voters of Greater Birmingham also includes membership in the League of Women Voters of Alabama and the League of Women Voters of the United States.
Annual membership dues are $55 for an individual, $80 for two living in the same household, or $15 for a registered student.
